Acoustic Insulation.

REFLECTA-RANGE™ ACOUSTIC INSULATION PROPERTIES

Acoustic insulation are properties built in to Reflecta-Guard and Reflecta-Cell reflective bubble foil insulation.

Two Green Insulation® reflective foil products have been tested by the University of Adelaide’s MechTest group being Reflecta-Cell® and Reflecta-Guard™.  The Green Insulation® reflective foil products were tested in accordance with acoustic insulation requirements ISO 354-2003, AS ISO 11654 – 2002, AS 1191 – 2002 and AS/NZS ISO 717.1:2004.

There are many acoustic insulation products on the market that claim to have excellent sound absorption properties, but to make a valid comparison you need to compare the Sound Reduction Index or Rw.  The Rw is the difference in the level of airborne sound measured in decibels (dB) from one side of a structure to another.  To put decibels as a measure of sound into perspective, each change of 10Rw halves the sound.

An uninsulated stud wall has an Rw of 33.  Using the exact same wall structure, with the addition of Green Insulation®  Reflecta-Guard™,   the insulated stud wall now has an Rw of 43.  Many of our competitors, even when using special sound absorbing plasterboard can only achieve a maximum Rw of 40.
Acoustic Test

All the tests were conducted in accordance to the following Australian Standards for testing acoustic qualities of insulation products.

ISO 354-2003: Acoustics: Measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room.
AS ISO 11654 – 2002: Acoustics: Rating of sound absorption – Materials and systems.
AS 1191 – 2002: Acoustics: Method for laboratory measurement of airborne sound insulation of building elements.
AS/NZS ISO 717.1:2004 Acoustics: Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements.

STC was calculated based on the test performed by Mechanical Engineering Testing & Consulting at the University of Adelaide. Once Green Insulation™ is installed within plasterboard or brick veneer walls, the total system STC value could rise to 40-50 standard STC value to achieve privacy in bedroom. Our STC values are competitive to the sound barrier products in market.

One of the greatest acoustic benefits we see on a regular basis is the use of shed insulation to not to achieve thermal insulation targets, but to reduce noise for comfort within the shed for all sorts of reasons.
